I’m told, but didn’t hear it myself, that at about 3:30am there were a bunch of yahoos in the vicinity having a great time. I slept through the commotion. Several of the other sites were talking about it this morning. I have to say that one of the downsides, and yet sometimes interesting features, of communal campsite living is listening to your neighbours conversations, whether you want to or not.
There’s a small cafe in Yamba that serves Turkish food. People up and down the coast have recommended it to us so we booked for lunch today at 11am (yes I know that’s early but it’s the only booking that they take, the rest is on a first come, first served basis).
Yamba is a very picturesque town, surrounded by several beaches which all face a slightly different direction so that when it’s onshore at one, it’s probably offshore at one of the others.
Yamba Beach is a classic example of a NSW beach, with a pub nearby, a surf club, an ocean or rock pool and a stand of Norfolk Pines.
The crabs on Convent Beach are very creative little creatures. They left patterns in the sand as the tide went out.
We walked along all the beaches in Yamba and settled in for a swim at Pippi Beach. 3km of coastline with about 20 to 30 people on it.
Lunch was all we expected it to be, beautiful Turkish home cooking. Sevtap Yüce, the cook at the cafe, has been doing this for 26 years. We ordered Octopus, Chili Prawn Salad and Sucuk. All were delicious as well as a couple of glasses of the 2020 West Cape Howe Rosé.
All that fabulous food and a couple of glasses of wine set the scene for a lazy afternoon, keeping out of the sun and catching up with what has been going on in the world.
I could only take so much of that and went to Turners Beach to see if there was a wave worth trying. Of course it was completely blown out with a 25km NE on shore breeze (?did I say breeze). There are 2 long breakwalls at the mouth of the Clarence River. One on the Yamba side and one on the Iluka side. The outlook is stunning.
At around 5:30pm the local fishing fleet make their way out to sea the bring us that fabulous local produce that we’ve enjoyed on this trip. Here are a couple of them.
Tomorrow is Port Macquarie
Yamba looks so gorgeous! As does the Turkish food ?
